I’m an absolute beginner DSLR user, keep that in mind!
Sure, it covers most aspects of the camera, but it jumps from almost “tedious basics” to long text sections. I mean, it’s a book about pictures so why not use some pictures to illustrate concepts, ideas, and settings. In the advanced sections there are some example pictures and then tables detailing the settings. BORING! Uninspired, a typical example of how software books used to be: quick rewrites of the manual.
Get the “Magic Lantern’s Nikon D40 DVD guide” instead (the D60 is almost identical to the D40.

If you’ve recently purchased a Nikon D60 this book might be considered a must read. It is much easier and much more informative in introducing you to all the options and techniques for using your D60 effectively. It not only gets you well acquainted with your camera but it does a good job of introducing folks to some of the finer points of photography. I believe it does a decent job of explaining some of the technical terms without boring you to death with too much.
This really should be the book that comes with the camera! The only reason I marked it down 1 star is that I’m not sure it really qualifies as a “field guide.” It’s a bit big and heavy to carry around and my idea of a true field guide would be a something that has critical info in a bit more compressed format. But… that’s nit-picking a bit!

I recently purchased my first dSLR and wanted a guide to go along with the manual to help me learn how to use the camera. I’m just beginning to read the book and learn about the camera, but so far I can say that it is much better than the manual and would definitely recommend it as a supplement.
It’s a great book for a beginner who’s just learning to use the camera as it’s easy to read, easy to understand, and has colorful images and examples explaining different shooting options.

This is a great book! It provides a comprehensive and well organized overview of the camera. It also provides a generous amount of information and advice on how to effectively use the many features available in Nikon D60 camera.
I particular appreciate the fact that the book uses a full color layout. You won’t regret purchasing this book – it is worth every penny of its cost.

D60 Nikon book too vague in many areas and too much miscellaneous non-camera info…like buying a camera bag. Book says camera has remote control feature but doesn’t explain how to shoot with remote. Tells you what it has just doesn’t explain how to use that particular menu item.
